Citrus fruit labeling

The European Union has confirmed the mandatory labeling of preservatives in citrus fruits.

The consumer should be warned about the post-harvest treatment of citrus fruits, as unlike thin-skinned fruits, these citrus fruits may be treated with higher doses of chemicals and their skin, peel or rind may be incorporated in one way or another into human food.

However, a non-binding UN/ECE standard indicates that the use of preservatives or other chemicals is only required to be indicated when required by the legislation of the importing country.
